Musical instruments are the most cherished but complicated collectibles as they are composed of a wide variety of materials such as metal, wood, leather and stretched skins and bear various properties. The variety of materials and properties requires more skillful and dedicated care in storage, handling and treatment.

 

* Treat musical instrument as creatures with sprits and store them in environment where we human beings feel comfortable: neither too cold nor hot, neither too dry nor humid

 

* Prevent sudden change in temperature, humidity and light intensity

 

* Compared to temperature control, humidity control is more important as dramatic humidity change can easily cause cracks and loose veneer

 

* If you live in north, be aware of the condensation on windows and interior walls during winter time, and plan for insulation and vapor barriers

 

* When displaying, change the directions instruments face from time to time to avoid continual light, pollution and dust

 

* Make sure the storage area does not release volatile organic acids and harmful gases
